Trong Mai Islet – The symbol of Halong Bat
Learning about the legend of Trong Mai Islet, there are many stories woven around this legend. There is also a legend that says “When the Vietnamese people first established their country and had to fight against foreign invaders from the North, the Mother Dragon and her Dragon children came down from the sky to help and the people drove out the invaders. After driving out the invaders, because they were immersed in the beauty of the earth, the Mother Dragon and her Dragon children fell asleep here. The Jade Emperor immediately sent a pair of roosters down to wake the Dragons back. However, things did not go as planned, because the pair of roosters were mistaken for a hen and a rooster. In the earthly world, instead of carrying out the task of waking up the Dragons, the pair of roosters were caught up in the beauty of the landscape and immersed in love. They forgot their mission and eventually turned into stone and remained on the island forever.”
Besides, there is also another story passed down by the people in the area as follows: “Once upon a time, there was a young couple who loved each other deeply, but were forbidden by their families. To prove their love, they decided to go to the ocean, where there are majestic islands that are now Ha Long Bay. There, they turned into two birds – a male and a female – to live together forever. Then one day, the male bird encountered a big storm and could not return to the female bird. The female bird waited forever without seeing her friend return, finally she decided to fly to find the male bird and turned into stone at the place where the male bird met with the disaster to be with her friend forever. From then on, two large stones appeared, one resembling a male bird and the other resembling a female bird, standing tall in the middle of the ocean, symbolizing eternal love and loyalty.”
In terms of shape, each “chicken” on the Rooster and Hen Islet has a different height and shape. Both of these islands have green plants growing on their backs, giving life to the island instead of just being a barren rock. When viewed from afar, the precarious and unconventional appearance of the Rooster and Hen Islet is a great attraction for tourists.
